Enchanted Tiki Room is Walt Disney's first Audio-Animatronics collection of performing cast of 225 rowdies- all-talking and singing. Members of the cast include all-whistling drummers birds, flowers, masks and tiki poles.
This colorful and lively feature of Disneyland was opened in June 1963 as a personally owned company of Walt Disney.
There are four avian master of ceremonies named Michael, Fritz, Jose and Pierre. These emcees lead tiki drummers and masks, carved wooden tiki poles, cockatoos, macaws, parrots, toucans, bird-of-paradise flowers and animated orchids.
They perform a musical show of celebrated Richard, Robert and Sherman brothers; musical numbers played are "Let's All Sing Like the Birdies Sing", "The Hawaiian War Chant", "Aloha to You". The musical performance includes "In the Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room", theme song of the show as well others. This is a stunningly exhilarating show.
To begin with Walt Disney owned it as WED Enterprises, under his company, Walt Disney Productions. The show was planned to be a restaurant with dining shows featuring Audio-Animatronics performances.
Originally planned coffee station in center of Tiki Room is the spot of present day's magic fountain. As a reminiscent of old plans, there still are storage compartments at the base of fountain.
The inoperative Plaza Pavilion Restaurant and Tahitian Terrace remind the past. Enchanted Tiki Room has been an ever popular spot in Disneyland since its inception, nevertheless a favorite of a large number of people who never feel tired of repeated visits.
Tiki Room is said to be the greatest accomplishment of Disneyland, which of course it is. For certain reasons, there have been some problems concerning Tiki Room making with clouds of uncertainty hanging over it.
As an action of deliverance, campaign "Save the Tiki Room Page and Petition’ was created. This campaign has enjoyed the blessing and has again come alive with full spirit. The course has now reversed into "Friends of the Tiki Room", ensuring a brighter days ahead for Tiki Room. .
There was a renovation program of seven months as preparation for 50th anniversary of Disneyland. Renovations ended in March 2005. Audio system was digitalized to provide a new Audio-Animatronics experience.
Now Tiki Room is totally revamped with new infrastructure and updated technology. Walt Disney Imagineering has infused wonders to the place. Some of prominent shows of Enchanted Tiki Room are A Musical Luau, The Enchanted Fountain, Pardon me Madame, The Gods have been angered by all the celebrating, Ah! Buenas Dias, Farewell and Aloha, and Hi Ho, Hi Ho. |
