Theater lighting, 3-D filming techniques, audio-animatronics and other special effects, It's Tough to be a Bug, an eight minute long film performed inside Disney's Tree of Life presents life to us humans as what it would be like if we were just the size of a bug.
It's Tough to be a Bug tickets are available online and are good for all Disney World Resort Animal Kingdom attractions and rides. The show is air conditioned and creates the ideal break from the Florida summer heat.
It's Tough to be a Bug is hosted by Flik and grasshopper friend Hopper, both from the Disney/Pixar film A Bug's Life. Supporting cast members include spiders, termites, beetles, weevils, and butterflies.
Guests are asked to wear bug-like glasses which enable them to see the movie in 3-D. Due to the use of the other special effects, there are also some "4-D’ special effects as well, such as the experience of smell.
The attention to detail in this film is classic Disney as the announcer before the show even reminds you of many movies based on the same theme. Did you know? The buggy movie opened in Animal Kingdom April 22, 1998, which was an actual seven months before A Bug's Life had its theater debut. The short strives to show insects not as pests but as friends.
As guests make their way through the queue line, they are presented with posters of previous make-believe shows that the "Tree of Life Repertory Theatre Players" have performed.
The pretend poster shows include tongue in check presentations such as A Stinkbug Named Desire, My Fair Ladybug, and A Cockroach Line. It's Tough to be a Bug replays every eight minutes, and the theater sits 430 persons.
