Just as Mickey Mouse and Cinderella have become iconic within the Disney world, so has the Tree of Life. Though artificial, the Tree of Life stands 145 feet with a fifty-eight foot wide trunk.

The branches alone span over a hundred sixty feet with 45 secondary branches and 756 third place branches. There are over a hundred thousand artificial manmade leaves made from a pvdf resin known as kynar adorn the Tree of Life, each of which is longer than a foot.

Plus, the tree can actually withstand hurricane force like winds and is flexible enough to sway in a breeze. Carved into the trunk are three hundred twenty-five different animals all done by different artists.

There is even a hidden Mickey Mouse. The carvings blend into and out of each other, resembling natural bark growth. The painting job and artistic rendering is so real, people are tempted and actually do reach out and touch the tree to see if the bark is real or fake.

As the natural lighting of the day changes, various different animals can be seen in the tree as well. At the very entrance of the theater chimps are carved, inspired by the work of Jane Goodall.

The whole thing is made out of a refitted, recycled oil platform, modeled after Rafiki's home from the movie The Lion King. Inside the Tree of Life is a 430-seat camouflaged cave-like auditorium where the eight minute 3-D film It's Tough to be a Bug plays.

The Tree of Life is one of the very few artificial plants within the Disney World Resorts Animal Kingdom which boasts over four million living plants.

The tree itself is the most photographed attraction in the Animal Kingdom. Tree of Life tickets are available for purchase online and are good for all the Disney Animal Kingdom attractions and rides.
